I’m sure everyone has uttered the words “ I know” before weather it was under their breath or out loud. Do you really know though? They answer to that would be no. When you say the words I know how you feel. Sure you may have had an experience similar but you don’t know what they are feeling, and you'll never know until you have lived their life, walked in their shoes, or been through what they have been through.
You're sitting in a car waiting for your mom to come out of the grocery store, she said she was just going in to buy eggs but we all know they never just buy the eggs. 15 minutes passes you haven't ate anything since breakfast and now it's dinner time, you get the smell of the restaurants BBQ passing through and as the seconds go by the stronger the smell gets stronger your mom comes in after “just getting the eggs” after the half hour passes. Then your mom gets in the car and says she has to stop at some more places on the way home then she will make dinner, and that’s when you say right on cue “ But mom I’m starving”. But are you really “starving”? Or are you just hungry? The definition of starving is to die from hunger, you're not going to die from hunger just because you skipped lunch at least you are fortunate enough to have the two meals and normally three a day. Most children and adults don’t have the privilege to eat everyday they are lucky enough to eat something three times a week, now what put them in that situation, who knows? But people are people we are all the same and we all need to eat to live. 50% of first nations children live in poverty, 62% in Manitoba and 64% in Saskatchewan; that’s a lot of people. They are the people who don’t have the privilege to eat those three meals a day like us. So next time you say “ I’m starving” think about it. The world is full of good people and if you can’t find one then be one! Be that hero to at least 1% of the 50%, 62% and 64% of the people who are starving. Some of those people are close to dying so put yourself in their situation. You haven’t ate for nearly a week and you're sitting on the side of the street waiting for someone to be nice enough to stop and give you something like a small piece of food. But nope, everyone walks past you being totally oblivious to the fact that you are even there. It doesn’t help that someone walks by with their Tim's and the smell of coffee and donuts wafts by. Now you are in your own shoes again on your way to work and you see someone on the side of the road you packed a little extra for lunch today. Will you sacrifice your own lunch or buy a lunch for that poor person starving on the side of the street? Or will you just ignore them and be totally oblivious to the fact that they even exist. Then one day you finally decide to go up and give some money to them and say I know how you are feeling right now and they refuse to take your money, you wonder why? Simply because you said “I know how you feel” Then they reply with no you don’t. That’s where you tell them your story, the story of where you started and how far you have come making them realize that you have been in a similar experience as them before. Never judge people by their appearance because there is a much greater meaning to who people seem to be. You have no idea where they came from, the person on the street could have been a very successful person who lost everything in the blink of an eye, and the successful business person who just offered money was that homeless person on the side of the street who was lucky enough to have someone kind enough to believe in him and give him a chance to be where/what he is now. Beauty is not only skin deep, beauty shows through the most in the worst of times. Good will always triumph over bad only if you believe it will. So next time you say I know think about if you actually know what they are feeling from personal experience or you're just saying that to attempt to be supportive, and when someone tells you I know I’ve been there before but they don’t appear to have been merely close to where you are, just ask about what they went through. There is always a story behind the cover.

Just a figment of the mind
Fate. Many people live their life in worry and fear. But is that actually considered living? The dictionary describes fate as something that is destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way. Our lives could already be planned out for us; when we think we are changing it, fate already new that we would do that. Fate is simply the author of our lives, and the existence itself is the book it has written. Fate plays a major role in our lives we know it's there yet we know nothing about it, we can’t change it so we follow it. People live in fear because it's something they don’t know so they are afraid of it, little do they know our lives are actually planned out for us. It’s actually kind of weird when you first realize sometimes even a little freaky, but you can’t go living your life in fear, you’ll miss out on everything our world has to offer. Ever heard the term live life to the fullest? Well what does it mean to live life to the fullest? There is not specific answer to that. People will have a variety of different ways to describe what “living life to it’s fullest” really is and every one of those are right there is no wrong answer. It’s similar to this book called Virginia Woolf To The Lighthouse where the lighthouse symbolizes to each of the characters, something they want most. Like that book our definitions of living life to the fullest all mean something different to each of us. I try everyday to accomplish something new and this is my definition of “living life to it’s fullest”. There are lots of things that we don’t know and most of us fear the fact that we simply don’t know. Our lives our spent too much time stressing and fearing things that we forget to live. Fate is just another one of those things that you don’t know anything about yet somehow it’s there. Everything we do doesn’t really matter if you think about it because there is no way to change fate, it's something our lives revolve around. There happens to be the law of cause and effect that applies to fate though, for instance what you do today determines your fate for tomorrow. One of the quotes I live by is “Do today what others won’t so tomorrow you can do what others can’t”. Which basically describes the law of cause and effect. The whole point of this blog is to make you realize how big of a role fate plays in our lives. A thing everyone should live by is that if it was meant to happen it will happen because nothing in life is a guarantee simply because we don’t know what going to happen and we will never know. Fate, is it really just a figment of the mind? In my previous blogs I have only written about terrorist attacks, 9/11, the Friday the 13th attack in Paris, and attacks in Syria. But terrorist attacks are not the only thing that are happening across the world. We also have crime, poverty, Wars, and natural disasters. But those are just some of the tragic events happening all around us. We also have a ton of good things that are happening or that have happened around us such as a decrease in violence in the United states, We have cars that warn us when an accident may occur saving countless lives, decrease in death rate, and most importantly Women have been getting more rights and equality has increased dramatically. Now I’m here today to talk to you about the innovation of technology. Some would say/think that the innovation of technology has greatly affected our world. I agree, but in what ways? Is the innovation of technology helping or hurting us? Most people would say that it has helped us in more ways imaginable and it has, but if you really think about it the innovation of technology has hurt us. When I watch older movies or even movies now, I see children playing outside with each other. Messing around in the mud/dirt, playing ball, even riding bikes. Not on their cell phone going on social media worrying about how many likes this picture got or how many followers you have, they are not walking out on the streets at dark when who knows what is out there playing Pokemon go. They are simply just messing around outside. I remember when my parents would tell me stories about when they were younger and how they use to do stuff like that. Now they can’t believe how times have changed. How do we go from playing outside to never leaving your room. It’s just plain sad people! We need to realize what we are doing to ourselves. Technology also creates us to be lazy. We have recently created led sidewalks near crosswalks to allow pedestrians to cross the road without even looking up from their phone. Did anyone ever think of people running red lights when creating this, what happens if someone goes to cross the road and boom! A car comes zooming through the intersection and that person who was told it was safe to go gets hit by a car. We have created online grocery shopping so we don’t even need to get up and walk through the store to find what we need. Humanity in total has become reliant on technology to help us survive so what happens when disappears? Chaos! Everyday we use technology, and everyday we become more reliant upon it for life itself, and everyday we are one step closer to chaos. If there comes a day when we are no longer able to use it we will be lost. With each generation of children born there is also a new generation of technology and one less generation hope. Less hope that children will be taught with a paper and pencil instead of a laptop, less hope for people playing outside with friends, and less human interaction in total. Take a minute to think about this, we spend half our lives on technology alone. HALF OUR LIVES!!! That's half our lives taken away from us just by playing with technology. Now I may just sound like a hypocrite because I wrote this whole big rant on how the innovation of technology is bad, on a piece of technology. But my point still remains the same technology has ruined us. Why? “The world order which we seek is the co-operation of free countries, working together in a friendly, civilized society” ~Franklin D. Roosevelt Who, what, when, where, why, and how? We have used these simple questions since grade one to figure out a lot. We most commonly use these 6 questions to figure out something such as a murder, or a theft, generally in the field of crime. When? Being the most difficult to figure out in situations such as, terrorist attacks. It’s very difficult to figure out when an attack is going to hit. Take the Paris attack on Friday November 13th 2015 as an example. Ah Paris, the city of lights, love, and romance, or so we thought. Thousands of people come to the city to have a romantic escape from the real world but some would never return home. No one knew that the attacks were going to take place there and worst of all no one knew it was going to take place that day. Hundreds of people didn’t know that they would be saying their goodbyes for the last time. Telling their family that they loved them. Seeing theIr faces for the last time. No one knows when their time on earth will be up. That’s why you’ve got to live everyday like it’s your last. I never go a day without using this quote. “Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow”. Some of those people who were killed on November 13th probably were living everyday like it was there last and they were right. These tragic events are very, very sad, but even though it seems nothing good can come from a tragedy like this it can. With every thing in life, you will always need the bad to build of into good because without the bad things in life you would never be able to have the good things that make us most happy. When Paris got attacked not only did it have a major impact on them, it impacted other countries too. New York City lit the top of the one world trade center with the colours of the french flag to show support for the people of Paris, and what Paris did was truly remarkable. There have been one hundred and four attacks in this so called “city of love”. These attacks have been going on since the near 1800’s yet it’s still known for being the “city of love”. Why? Well Paris truly showed why they will be forever known as the city of love. Paris really showed why they are called the city of love when they turned off the lights in memoriam for the hundreds killed. This was a historical moment because on November 14th 2015 for the first time EVER Paris France turned off their lights, that day they were no longer known as the city of lights but they city of darkness. Showing major respect and compassion for those families who lost their loved ones in that tragic day that would go down as being the most well known attack in history. With everything going on in the world, France would still open their hearts and welcome over 30 thousand refugees in the year they got attacked. France knew that some of these people may be terrorists but they were kind and allowed them to come into their country . As Donald Trump Jr. put it “would you take a handful of skittles if you knew that there were three poisonous ones” France decided to take that handful of skittles. Similar to the most famous attack in history 9/11, the attack of Friday November 13th 2015 in Paris, France has an iconic date.Friday the 13th, and as most of you may know that this date is iconic and well known for being the day of horror and bad luck, as shown in the movie “Friday the 13th”. The terrorists of this attack most likely planned well before exactly what they were going to do but waited until Friday the 13th to make the attack that much more memorable. No matter how bad the attacks were, they never altered who France really is. Even the most beautiful places in the world can turn ugly, it’s only a matter of when. Crime, war, brutality, abuse, suicides, bombings and murders. These are just a few of the awful things that are happening in this day and age. Why has our world resulted in violence as an answer? It’s like countries are on a hit list, it’s all just a game and we have to figure out who’s going to be attacked next.
Syria, South Sudan, Iraq, and Afghanistan are at the top of the list for being the most dangerous countries in the world as of 2016. Syria being the most dangerous. 22.85 million people still live in Syria knowing that it is one of the most dangerous counties ever because it is their home, it's the place they grew up in and learned to love. Others are afraid to leave because they know if word gets out that they left, they will be killed if they return. Others are in poverty and don’t have the money or resources to relocate. Same goes for every country. Myself along with most people, realize that there is crime and violence happening everywhere. My friend once told me that “ a finger is not stronger then the whole hand” and I believe that if everyone takes just one minute out of the 1440 minutes there are in a day, just to realize what our world is becoming then, in that moment we will come together and form that hand to end or at bare minimum to reduce the violence in our world. Why have we brought violence upon ourselves? Why must we resort in violence? Well, people are not born hating, they are taught or they were raised that way and they don’t know any better. They think what they are doing is the right thing because they don’t know any better. There are many reasons of why people resort in violence. It could be due to their past or that they somehow get enjoyment out of it. Others just get too wound up in being right, and getting their point across becomes more important than keeping the peace. So somehow people believe that in order to get our way the key is violence, or crime. Sometimes it's not even about being right or wrong it can be about bullying or gangs. Everyday people are pressured/threatened into something they don’t want to do but in most cases have to because their life is at risk. On the bright side of things, these tragic events bring countries together. Take the Europeans, the USA and Canada for example. We are not only allowing refugees in we are giving them a roof over their head and food on their plates. After terrorist attacks a lot of these countries are left with most of their infrastructures destroyed such as homes, hospitals, and schools they rely heavily on foreign aid. My point being that we are the terrorists too, even though we may think we are doing good by speaking our minds and fighting for what is we think is right. Sometimes being right can come with a downfall. In my opinion, sometimes when countries try to help out other countries it just ends up causing more trouble than what they started with. Sometimes we shouldn’t help until we know exactly what’s going on, because if we don’t we just try to take over and make it into our own problem. It’s like we are on a hit list, and we have to figure out what country or city is going to be hit next. The world is filled with many things, some we know, some the we are still discovering, and even some we haven't even thought of. It is also filled with a lot of good things but where there are good things, there are also bad things too. Even in the most beautiful places tragedy can strike. 9/11 goes down as the most famous terrorist attack in history. 2,996 is the number of deaths and 6,000 is the number of people who are injured. That's including 343 firemen,60 police officers and 8 paramedics who risked their lives to save someone else's and died instantly when the towers collapsed. March 10th 2002 is when the first 9/11 movie was shown. Imagine the loved ones of those who died watching that movie. See them and what they did for the last time, all the firemen, police officers, and paramedics, who walked into the tower and would never come out. The thing is no one knew that something like this would happen, especially not that day. My question is why September 11th? why such a random number? Well if you think about it September 11th in short for is 9/11, and 911 is the number for an emergency. Coincidence? I think not. But did the attack go as planned? My question to you is how do you think the terrorists wanted the attack to be remembered? and how was the attack remembered? Tuesday morning at 8:45 am on September 11th is when the first plane struck the first tower. The hijacked passenger jet, American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, Massachusetts hit the north tower. 8:50 am is when the first of the emergency response arrived at the scene. They knew that there was a chance they wouldn’t come out alive. Re watching this on the news and seeing them go and knowing that you'll never see them again. I have a lot of respect for those people, sorry, hero’s who went in there and risked their lives to try and save others. I have a ton of sympathy for their loved ones I could never imagine losing someone in that way. Then at 9:03 the second hijacked airliner, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston, Massachusetts hit the south tower. As soon as the second plane hit, everyone knew that it wasn’t just a crash, it was an attack. If I was anywhere near the twin towers at the time of the attack I would be high tailing it out of there. This is how everyone remembers how the attack went down. They remember it as the most tragic event in history. With the twin tower collapsing, thousands of people dying, all the black smoke and dust that came rolling through the city who wouldn’t. Al-Qaeda didn’t plan on the twin towers collapsing as he said in the following statement. “ ...we calculated in advance the number of casualties from the enemy, who would be killed based on the position of the tower. We calculated that the floors that would be hit would be three or four floors. I was the most optimistic of them all. (...Inaudible...) due to my experience in this field, I was thinking that the fire from the gas in the plane would melt the iron structure of the building and collapse the area where the plane hit and all the floors above it only. This is all that we had hoped for.” So as you can see here the attack of 9/11 wasn’t supposed to involve the twin towers collapsing. The calculated everything out including the number of deaths, just to have their plan go south and the twin towers collapse fully. People all around the world know that things like this are happening, 9/11 being the most well known out of all of them. Well you can say that the terrorists accomplished that part of their plan. My point about this blog is to inform you that not everything goes as planned, and I believe that’s what made 9/11 the most famous attack in history. |
